Growing wild garlic in the garden

Plant wild garlic
You can buy plants in pots to plant directly in the garden in autumn or spring, or bulbils which must be planted in the ground during the fall and then covered with 6 cm of soil. It is also possible to harvest from the wild wild garlic seeds to be sown from July until March. Sowing is done directly in place. It is necessary to space wild garlic plants about fifteen centimeters apart.
Be careful not to plant too many feet because this plant becomes invasive after a few years when she likes her environment. Similarly, it is absolutely necessary to avoid planting it near beans, peas and other legumes.
Wild garlic, an undemanding aromatic plant
No care is necessary when wild garlic is grown in conditions similar to those offered by its natural environment, namely in the shade, in the coolness and in moist and very fertile soil.
We must at most take care to protect it with an anti-insect veil whose mesh width is 850 µ so that it is not attacked by the leek leafminer fly (Phytomyza gymnostoma). This occurs between April and June and then between August and November. There is currently no curative treatment against this insect. Apart from this fly, wild garlic is not susceptible to any other insect and to any particular disease.
Harvest wild garlic
It is the flowers and leaves of wild garlic that present the greatest taste, but all parts of the plant are consumed, whether aerial or underground. Regarding the harvesting of the leaves, it is done according to the needs. However, it is best to pick them before the flowers appear.
When the wild garlic has developed well and it form a carpet, the harvest is more abundant. We can therefore prepare a pesto in order to prolong its conservation. But it is also possible to chop it as soon as it is picked and then freeze it by distributing the portions in ice cube trays for example.
Wild garlic bulbs stay in the ground year after year. It is not necessary to dig them up to store them under cover. Thus, this deciduous perennial disappears before summer to reappear in March and can quickly reach fifty centimeters in height.
