How and why should you clean and maintain your roof?

We don’t necessarily know it, but a swimming pool needs to be filled continuously. When swimming in the summer, it is perfectly normal for the water level in your pool to gradually drop. This is mainly due to evaporation which increases due to the warm outside temperatures, as well as the splashing of water which escapes when you play and swim in the pool. But what some don’t know is that the pool also loses water during the regeneration process through the pool filter. In order to keep the water level constant, your pool must therefore be filled again and again.

Make sure the water level in the pool is constant

During the hot summer months, the pool water level gradually drops. This happens through evaporation and also through play and splashing. To keep the water level constant, your pool must therefore be filled very often.

What is the ideal water level in a swimming pool?

Dirt and impurities inevitably accumulate on the surface of the water. Using the filter system cleans the water and circulates it optimally. Water is directed into the filter system through an opening in the pool called the pool skimmer. This skimmer should always be 2/3 full for the filter circuit to be fully functional. If the skimmer is properly installed, dirt enters the filter system more easily.

Check the contents of the pool with a level regulator

You can very easily install a suspended or overhanging skimmer at the edge of your pool. The water level can thus be adjusted easily. An external level controller that controls the water level can be mounted on an existing built-in skimmer or in the vacuum cleaner. In practice, however, this variant is rarely found, since the installation is quite complex.

Install an overflow lock for your pool

This is what is usually found in outdoor public swimming pools. A small reservoir serves as an overflow lock. In this way, the surface of the water is cleaned and the water is then fed into the filtration system. Cleaned pool water returns to the pool through its inlet nozzles. If the water level in the pool rises, whether it is a round, oval or figure eight pool, whether due to increased visitor numbers or due to rain, the Excess water is channeled into an overflow which is directly coupled to the overflow lock. If the water level drops again, a refill with fresh water occurs.

What if the water level is too low?

In order for the filter system to continue to operate, the water level must always be checked and maintained. It doesn’t matter what system you use. If the water level is too low, the pool pump will run dry and there is a high risk of damage. The mechanical seal, which prevents water from reaching the motor, is located between the sump and the swimming pool pump motor. It usually consists of two surfaces pressed against each other by axial forces. The sliding ring rotates with it, while the counter ring is firmly fixed in the housing. A thin film of water between the two surfaces provides the necessary cooling. However, if the pool pump runs dry, it will destroy the seal. As a result, water enters the engine. So preserve your filtration system by maintaining the correct water level in your pool.

What is the ideal depth for a swimming pool?

For many, having a swimming pool in your own garden is synonymous with a little paradise. In summer, the cool water not only provides welcome refreshment, but a sufficiently large pool is also suitable for water aerobics, for example. The prerequisite for this, however, is that the pool is of an appropriate size. The depth of the pool also plays a major role in how the pool can be used, but also in the complexity of pool maintenance. Would you like a swimming pool to swim in, to have fun in? Do you have young children?

Baby pool depth

Even the little ones will enjoy splashing around in the water. It is a welcome activity to cool off in the summer when the temperatures are very hot. Babies and water are always sensitive topics because toddlers should never be left unattended in water. Even a shallow depth of water can pose a threat to them. The depth of water in babies should therefore be limited to a few centimeters. The water level should be well below 10cm and even then babies should never be alone in the pool.

Pool depth for older children

With older children, your pool may be slightly deeper. However, a distinction must be made as to whether your children can already swim on their own or whether they still need a swimming aid. If the pool is just for letting off steam, it doesn’t need to be particularly deep. A depth of up to 60 cm is sufficient for playing and splashing. Children should still be able to stand in it and most of their upper body should stick out of the water. This also applies if the children are still in a phase where your children need help swimming. Because the fact that they can have their feet at any time and can easily get out of the water gives them the confidence to learn to swim.

Pool depth for water aerobics

If you want to play sports in your pool, you should pay attention to a minimum depth. If you want to use the pool for water gymnastics, an average depth of 1.20 to 1.50 m seems ideal.
