You have just acquired a house with a swimming pool or have had a swimming pool for several years without the shadow of a technical room. However, each swimming pool needs a certain number of equipment and devices to operate efficiently. Some people are even happy to have a locker room where they can change and to have a toilet available rather than having to go back inside the house. Canisters, pumps, filtering or heating systems… All of this must find its place in your technical room. But where to place it in relation to your swimming pool? What are the essential elements to take into account? And how to design it well?
What location for your pool technical room?
So where should you put all your equipment and gear? In a basement, in the garage, in the garden shed you already have? Certainly a dry place would be appropriate, in particular to accommodate electricity, filtration systems, pumps, etc. But the best thing would be for your technical room to be located as close to your swimming pool as possible. For water treatment, you must place the technical room of your swimming pool as close as possible to your pool. This way you can make routing all your pipes easier. The shorter and more direct, the better. Of course, make sure that your future technical room is not near a bedroom or a room where silence or rest are essential. Because in general, all the systems relating to swimming pools make a little noise, even if they are more and more often silent.
What are the sine qua non conditions for your pool technical room?
It seems obvious, but you might as well make it clear: your pool equipment room must be accessible. If you want to install a whole technical system there freely, without any hindrance, then think about the height under the ceiling and the opening of the door. It should be easy to get your gear in and out. Ideally, the floor of your technical room should be slightly below water level. In this way, the pump, filter and piping can also be installed below the water level.
One of the major conditions for equipping your pool equipment room as well as possible remains that it must be absolutely well ventilated. If not, excessive heat can damage all of your materials and equipment, which means your pool will malfunction. Remember to maintain good air circulation. So equip your technical room with windows or shutter-type openings.
What technical equipment for your pool room?
The technical room must offer sufficient space for the following equipment: the inlet and outlet pipes for fresh water, waste water, a filtration pump sized according to the size of your pool, a water connection for filling your pool. Plan all electrical connections in accordance with wet room regulations. In the case of a spa, the technical room must also provide space for an appropriate heating system.
When planning, consideration should also be given to retrofitting possibilities: a heat exchanger, for example, can help save a lot of heating energy. In addition to a normal filter, a UV flow filter can significantly improve water quality. Also make sure the room is well ventilated. Especially when using chlorine tablets or granules to improve water quality, good aeration is worth its weight in gold.
In other words, if you already have a small shelter in the garden, you can also exploit it. Everything is easily accessible, you can make a system for hanging pipes and your equipment along the wooden walls. There is also enough room for your towels, pool noodles and all your water care products. Outside, you can attach hooks for vacuum cleaner poles and nets to the wall. Inside, you can store your robot when the time comes. And design shelves on which to place sponges, buckets, products to test the pH and the level of chlorine. If you cover your pool, you can also store your cover there. If necessary, this shelter can also be used as a changing room. Of course, it is necessary to ensure good acoustics or in any case the good place of your “purring” equipment, otherwise the noise risks harming you greatly. And then in winter, nothing is left lying around: everything is in your room. There is no longer any risk of freezing!
